STATISTICS: With the nickname of “The Port City,” Wilmington has a long history having been incorporated on February 20, 1739/40, and named for Spencer Compton, who was the 1st Earl of Wilmington. Its population in 2010 was 106,476, and it grew to an estimate in 2019 of 123,744.

 

REBOUND: When Hurricane Florence hit, it flooded the city with almost two feet of rain that caused a disaster zone with damages totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. But the residents worked extremely hard, and the area has bounced back with most of the restaurants, hotels, and attractions having been reopened and wanting to welcome visitors.

 

ACTIVE CITY: Showing the friendliness of a true Southern city, Wilmington boasts of its ever-growing riverfront district, its numerous attractions, a popular and busy food scene, and its location near beaches with sun and sand.
