How The Forks Got Its Name

The Forks is named after the Battle of Forks Road, a significant battle that took place during the Civil War in late February of 1865. It was during this battle that the Union Army and U.S. Colored Troops proved victorious over the Confederates, with the victory paving the way for the Union troops to ultimately overtake Wilmington.
