David Smith

As Quality Assurance Manager, David Smith ensures that each Trusst home has all of the right ingredients, is crafted with utmost care and has all of the necessary finishing touches. In fact, he employs many of the same type of quality controls he used daily as a trained chef and owner of Simply Delicious Catering in Raleigh, NC.

A native of Wilmington, Smith developed an interest in cooking at a young age and began working in local restaurant kitchens at age 15. He dreamt of owning his own restaurant someday and earned a degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, SC. It was here he perfected his culinary skills, as well as his penchant for low-country cuisine.

Following graduation, he moved to Raleigh and instead of opening a restaurant, launched a successful catering company. But the pull of his hometown and a desire to raise his children at the beach brought David and his family back to Wilmington in 2015. He ran Simply Delicious Catering from here through March 2020, but when Covid hit, it was time to pivot to another creative passion: home construction. Prior to joining Trusst Builder Group in January 2022, David worked at Wrightsville Construction and Porch Conversions as a carpenter and installer.

When David is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife Ryan, their three children — Hannah, Carter and Ellery — and his Chocolate Labrador named Scout. They all enjoy boating, crabbing, fishing offshore and enjoying everything Wrightsville Beach has to offer. And when he’s not on the water, you can often find David in the kitchen, preparing holiday meals for family gatherings and his wife’s personal favorite – low-country shrimp and grits.
