Derrick Thompson

Two things run in Derrick Thompson’s family – a love of music and a legacy of construction. Derrick’s mother is a talented gospel singer with two albums to her credit; his father plays the saxophone and drums; his brother is a minister of music and his sister is a Raleigh vocalist and stage actress. Derrick is a formidable musical talent in his own right as a singer/songwriter, acoustic guitarist and drummer, and spent several years performing in regional rock bands across the Carolinas.

Today, his focus is on home-building as Construction Manager at Trusst Builder Group. And just like his family stirred his passion for music, they also contributed to his interest in construction. Derrick’s family owned a remodeling business and he launched his career at the tender age of eight by cleaning up job sites and learning all aspects of the business from the ground up.

Born in Raleigh, NC, Derrick grew up in Fuquay Varina. After high school, he joined the Air Force and served two years as a Military Police Officer in Denver, CO. From here, he had a variety of jobs in construction, including his own interior trim business and a family-owned roofing company.  Prior to joining Trusst in January 2020, he worked in the Warranty Department of Plantation Building Corp. and as a Construction Superintendent for Logan Homes, with a specific focus on Compass Pointe.

When Derrick is not working, he and his wife Jane enjoy spending time with their children Mary Dylan and Carter Van, and their dogs Cash and Jaco. The family loves surfing, fishing, soccer and playing and listening to music.
