Sandy Wood

Managing Partner

From city planner to banker, to builder and developer, Sandy Wood has enjoyed a varied and successful career.  Sandy was born in Sanford, NC but raised in the Wrightsboro/Castle Hayne community. After a tour of duty with the U.S. army,  he returned to Wilmington and graduated from UNCW in 1978.

Sandy began his career as a planner with the City of Wilmington, and while in that position he launched the Small Business Administration’s 504 business loan program through a joint venture with Wilmington Business Development (WBD). The SBA program became one of the most active in the United States and is still an integral part of development tools used today.

In the mid 1980’s Sandy was appointed Vice President of BB&T in its Wilmington office. A few years later, he left BB&T to join Landmark Organization,  which at the time,  was the largest land development and residential construction firm in South Eastern NC.  It was there that Sandy learned the construction business from the ground up from local real estate veterans Bobby Harrelson and Rex Stephens.

In 1992 Sandy struck out on his own and partnered with Jim Hunter to form Hearthside Builders and developers Inc. Together, they developed and built 18 residential communities. In 2012 Sandy partnered with Shawn Horton to create Trusst Builder Group, one of the area’s largest residential builders of homes and neighborhoods in New Hanover and Brunswick counties.

Sandy is active in a variety of community and industry organizations, including the Wilmington Home Builders Association, Business Alliance for a Sound Economy (BASE) and the Cape Fear Council of the Boy Scouts. He is married to Rachel (Missy) Wood and has three daughters  – Sarah, Elizabeth and Mary, and five grandchildren – Lucas, Sam, Caris, Jonah and Ryder.
